Neuroanatomical correlates of trait hostile attribution bias were studied by VBM.•

Trait hostile attribution bias was positively correlated with GMV in the left OFC.•

Trait hostile attribution bias was negatively linked to GMV in the left LG.•

Left OFC plays a role in attitudes toward violence too.•

Two expected mediation models about the three research variables were supported.
