“When it’s hard to lift your head from the pillow or even open your eyes, just try and set yourself achievable small daily goals. It’s ok to be scared at the news but also talk about what those fears are. As a family, talk through what lockdown really means and why it’s important to stay safe and self-isolate to protect your grandparents and your loved ones. “
With school closures and social distancing, the coronavirus crisis has profoundly affected children across the UK. For some children already suffering with mental health issues the effects of lockdown were even worse.
Sixteen-year-old Samantha struggles with anxiety and depression, made worse due to the pandemic: “I’m fearful and cry a lot… even though my family are here, I feel very lonely.”
Fortunately, thanks to your ongoing support, Childline has been available throughout lockdown so that children like Samantha have someone to talk to when they are struggling.
