The Dark Triad and Forensic Implications: Antagonistic, Aggressive, and Criminal Behaviors

In this chapter, I will explore the literature on the antagonistic core of the Dark Triad in relation to forensic psychology. I will discuss more generic theories on causes and correlates of criminal behavior (e.g., aggression and lack of self-control), and review research investigating the Dark Triad and forensically relevant correlates. Due to potential individual differences between prison and community samples, I will consider forensic and nonforensic populations separately, and link the Dark Triad traits to proclivity to commit different types of crimes. Research on white-collar crime will also be discussed, evoking the idea of “successful psychopathy.”
