Toxic Grandparent Checklist: 8

8. Wanting to be “grandparent #1”

To a toxic grandparent other grandparents are non-existent, or at least non-important. All the holidays and special events should be at their house, or else. They expect preferential treatment, and they play “dirty” to win your kids’ love, i.e. showering them with gifts, treats, being overly permissive, keeping secrets etc. They may even encourage your kids to love them more than you.

  1. Hi. How can I learn and/or contribute. I am a ‘targeted’ parent who has survived 30 years of Parental Alienation. For over 20 years my FIVE children were deliberately kept out of my life. In 2015 after my ex-wife died two daughters attempted to contact me but it didn’t last long. Discovered I was a Grandfather to NINE but had never met them (eldest 22 youngest 4). Just joined PASG. Just started blog – arranhighlander.com and just started a Twitter account – @ArranHighlander Beginning a totally new journey at 78 years old, but that’s not important. What is important is that I want to share my experiences of PA, etc, etc. Am I talking to the right people here. My email (personal) is damibooth@gmail.com. I use the ArranHighlander tag so that I don’t hurt my adult children or grandchildren. They still haven’t realized that they are victims as well. David

    1. Hello Arran, dont ever give up!! I have recently been reconciled with my daughter and grandchildren after 27 years. I will take a look at your site later today. What is important is that you children and grandchildren learn the truth in a loving way. Please feel free to share any of my posts, knowledge is a wonderful thing, the more we learn about PA the better equipped we are to handle it.Please feel free to ask any questions, I am not an expert but have many contacts and years of experience. All the best Linda
