Is it time to reform our divorce laws?

Join our top-level debate chaired by Sir James Munby, taking place at The News Building on the evening of Monday, September 24.

The justice secretary David Gauke has just announced his intention to consult on reforming the divorce laws in what would be the biggest shake-up of marriage laws for 50 years.

His consultation paper would remove the need for couples to indulge in a “blame game” or wait for at least two years to divorce; and suggests a minimum time-frame of six months for the process, to give couples time to reflect.
