How to tell your kids your ex is abusive/addict/criminal etc.

Is your ex violent? Verbally abusive? Drug or alcohol problems? Unstable? Criminal? You can’t change the facts and I’m not suggesting hiding the facts or ignoring the facts at all.

What I am suggesting to you is rephrasing the facts. Why? Because you care about your children’s mental health, future mental health and their well being. That’s why. To flaunt and rub in the flaws of your ex — because you are angry, burned, hurt — and want your kids to KNOW the kind of ex you have — well…I get ya. But let’s think this through like we care.

I’m sorry for whatever drama or abuse your ex has put you through. Congrats for getting out and getting your kids out. No one should be abused or feel unsafe. Ever.
