I have been working with wealthy families for over 25 years. Their main focus is always the well-being of their children, but these family relationships are often heartbreaking due to disagreements around money. There is the father in Latin America who wants to disinherit a daughter who is interested in socially responsible investments because he is afraid the entire family fortune will be lost to “tree huggers.” There is the boy in Oman who dreams only of having the most custom Ferraris on the planet while his father hopes he will take over the running of a complex corporation. I could go on–the stories are stranger than fiction. In fact, they led me to write my first novel, Beyond Blood, which deals precisely with the topic of children, money and control.
